BFPA’s Participation in the National Conference on Global Citizenship Education
The National Conference “Global Citizenship Education in Bulgaria: The Next Step – From Tradition to Transformation” took place on 9–10 October 2026 in Sofia. BFPA participated as a co-organizer of the event, together with the Bulgarian Platform for International Development (BPID) and colleagues from other organizations.
Once again, the conference provided a forum for sharing research, ideas, and good practices among teachers and school leadership representatives from across the country.

We shared our experience from the work of the National Safer Internet Centre (SafeNet) and presented up-to-date data on the reports we receive concerning risks and problems in the online environment.
We discussed with participants the challenges children and young people face online and the importance of helping them recognize risks, protect themselves, and know where to turn when they need support.
We also highlighted the important role of schools and education professionals in helping children and young people develop these essential skills.

We particularly appreciated that online safety was included in the discussions about the future of citizenship education in Bulgaria. We believe that the ability to behave safely and responsibly online is an essential part of preparing children and young people for life in today’s society.
