Young People in Dupnitsa for a Better Urban Environment and Health Services

On April 6, 7 and 8, 2023, a group of young people from Kavaklia neighborhood in Dupnitsa together with the graffiti artists Alexi Ivanov and Dimitar Milenkov, made a great transformation of the tunnel, that leads from the railway station to the neighborhood area. The young people worked actively and enthusiastically for cleaning and painting the tunnel. Graffiti expresses their desire to participate in changing the environment around them.

Through their paintings, the young people stated their appeal to the municipality and the people in the community to keep the area around Kavaklia clean; to secure the railway crossing, which people pass every day on their way home or to school; to put lights in the tunnel during the night; to have an information board with the train schedule, as well as to periodically and systematically clean the shaft in the area of this place.

Along with the graffiti, the young people participated in the opening of an exhibition in the Municipality of Dupnitsa of photographs taken earlier by them using the photovoice method. The exhibition once again presents the issues that young people advocate for. It opens for a second time and will stay in the Municipality for a week. The first time the photos were placed and stayed for about a month in the People’s Community Center “Zora”, thanks to the kind hosts there.

The municipality supported the efforts of the young people and helped with the cleaning of the area around the tunnel. We hope to solve soon the next problems, requested by the young people with an official letter to the municipal authorities.

The initiative is implemented together with the BFPA team and our volunteers under the project “Youth Voices, Youth Choices”, with the financial support of MSD for Mothers.
